The Grip 03:03
The Grip lyrics by Jamie Douglas Before you're near me let me know Am I gonna sniff a friend or foe? Will it take me to the fire in weightless freakness, Tell me it was all a show? I know! Is your grip on me? Have mercy Is your grip on me? Well it's right by my fingers to reach it Is it gonna feel just like they say? Can it rock-a-bye away my monkey, The one who burned away my shame? I know! Is your grip on me? Have mercy Is your grip on me? My friends if they could only see me But my teeth can't grind anymore A hot tempered cheek swinging from my face Will, ah, my own pinch make me sore? I know! You don't know what you're missing You ain't never gonna die, right? Is your grip on me? Have mercy Is your grip on me? I know I can't be looking too pretty Something flooding out of every pore Call me victim, let me off, charge the city Sure, we've all been burned before, I know, I know Is your grip on me? Have mercy Is your grip on me? Have mercy (just don't, stop, shhh)

Bowl 'n' Pin lyrics by Jamie Douglas She's known well, West Van down to Rosedale Her dialect change in every hotel My swish stash, lap it 'til we stumble My Charger take us to the rumble Oh my my Caleigh Mariska Give it to me on the chin Won't be late cause it doesn't take a long time You can keep my bowl 'n' pin She take the p!$$ out wordy-feely singer Up until the daybreak laughing with the slinger She flip her finger to ugly bitter yamming Her daddy he looks like Burton Cummings Oh my my Caleigh Mariska Picking me up with a spin Got your imported green bottles for your skirt fly Don't forget my bowl 'n' pin Whoa Whoa My favourite when her hair's my ascot She get away with it 'cause she know she's so hot I think I love her, bet you that she'll let me But if you catch her spark up her Rosetti Oh my my Caleigh Mariska Give it to me on the chin Won't be late cause it doesn't take a long time You can keep my bowl 'n' pin Oh my my Caleigh Mariska Picking me up with a spin Got your imported green bottles for your skirt fly Don't forget my bowl 'n' pin Caleigh Mariska Caleigh Mariska Caleigh Mariska Caleigh Mariska

Three Minutes lyrics by Jamie Douglas It was an overdue night on the town in my black skull sweater Her looking so about of my league in her ebony stilletto The city lights burning the dark, sniffing for a place to park Three minutes alone at home just to spin the globe. Taking in the lobby crowd lights to dim to feel no smoke to hide our breath anymore, can tell her glasses ain't real I buy the concession all out, the show will smack'em dead no doubt Three minutes alone at home just to spin the globe Then an old soggy friend come along tried to call me a liar It spilled out on the street and back in and it started a fire Then heat came down harder than Bike Week in Daytona It felt like there was nothing to lose like a mad banished loner No one but myself to thank, waking, shaking, aching in the tank Three minutes alone at home just to spin the globe

Blow by Blow I'm gone, leaving without you baby I'm gone, leaving without you baby Remember living off your nectar? Too much pleasure was insane Your honey dripping golden fever The one I never had to chain The sugar party's long been done, neither wanna be last to go We're knee deep in this ash and coal without a thing to show Can't you see I no longer care who says what's black or what's blue? It's twice as bad for me, I'll be damned, had to live it with you I'm gone, leaving without you baby I'm gone, leaving without you baby I'll never win a prize for patience Holding me back brings out my worst You took advantage of my hunger 'Til all that mattered was my thirst I don't wanna waste my time I'm not gonna catch what you throw We're knee deep in this ash and coal without a thing to show Can't you see I no longer care, who says what's weak or what's true Twice as bad for me, I'll be damned, had to live it with you We'll hold our fists together, wring out our blood-stained clothes We'll cash the shiny chips of karma and we'll deal them blow by blow Blow by blow... yeah yeah yeah I'm gone, leaving without you baby I'm gone, leaving without you baby

So Beautiful lyrics by Jamie Douglas I eat a lot more take-out than I did month ago I've seen four different beds so far, mostly I'm alone The shrinking of my workload has at least gotten me trim I sleep a little more these days, the less I think of him Our hearts were cracking long ago, didn't use the proper glue It's says a lot to everyone that I still talk well of you And all that's left of us for me is a lingering idea I betcha that our babies woulda been so beautiful I betcha that our babies woulda been so beautiful I thought of moving back to the Hammer by the QEW And find someone to drink with who looks nothing at all like you You see I'm still a little screwed up, whose friends are your or mine? I spend too many calories playing making happy all the time Our hearts were cracking long ago, didn't use the proper glue It says a lot to everybody that I still talk well of you All that's left of us for me is a lingering idea Betcha that our babies woulda been so beautiful Betcha that our babies woulda been so beautiful Betcha that our babies woulda been so beautiful There's no time to be bitter when your mind is all ya got Some late night-karaoke crooning just might hit the spot Or take a drive to see someone who caught my eye before And maybe cook up something fresh when I walk through the door My heart will mend in time no doubt, I'll eat real meals again It'll say a lot to this one that I can still call you a friend A sweet unjaded doe-eyed gem to swing the nights away Betcha that our babies are gonna be so beautiful Betcha that our babies are gonna be so beautiful Betcha that our babies are gonna be so beautiful Betcha that our babies are gonna be
7.
Bat Lake Lyrics by Jamie Douglas First time she left town, hitchhiking in her torn gown No clever plans to put down, no cash coming soon She stopped his cobalt Jaguar, pretended not to see the scar Open top to curse the stars, and faces on the moon And she gladly took a haul or sip of anything the driver would pass The memory of her ticket price for freedom wouldn't possibly last On the way to Bat Lake Only three years ago, met the guy at an 'alt-country' show Saw he made a lot of dough, people were eager to please You know the first blow it stung, there'll never be a twenty-second one Golden credit finally hung, pleading in the breeze And she never knew the satisfaction primal urges boiling her heart Tasting in the midnight air, folk justice playing the part On the way to Bat Lake Didn't care about his name, strange how men all seem the same Hold a goddess down with shame, it's just a matter of when 'How far you going' he said, she only tilted back her head Closed her eyes to stop seeing red, 'don't make me do it again' And it felt like every sign along the road was screaming out what she'd done But the caressing wind it whispered to her to her 'worry not, they won't find the gun' On the way to Bat Lake
8.
Don't Go Falling (Douglas/Hart) Youth makes you so beautiful and all eyes see the same Also limits what a soul brings to any game Cotton pressing on your body like that sparks a dusty smile Your whiskey throated laughter lingers on Don't go falling I'm not your calling, no Fade me to black Sweet tears you're crying, giving me your heart for which I didn't ask Don't go falling I'm not your calling, no Fade me to black Fade me to black I'm not surprised you've tracked me down, you kids today are sharp With wit and wordplay, not so much I guess there's another dying art I could tell you what you wanna hear and sweep you off your feet Or let another younger man learn his lesson Don't go falling I'm not your calling, no Fade me to black Sweet tears you're crying, giving me your heart for which I didn't ask Don't go falling I'm not your calling, no Fade me to black Fade me to black Don't go falling I'm not your calling, no Fade me to black Sweet tears you're crying, giving me your heart for which I didn't ask Don't go falling I'm not your calling, no Fade me to black Fade me to black
9.
I'm Running lyrics by Jamie Douglas Last night I dreamed I was sailing on Canoe Lake with you Your lighthouse dimmed as I capsized and sank to the blue I'm running from the light, I'm running for some time I'm running so the pain won't tear me apart I'm taking what I can, an invisible man I'm smoking my lungs black to match my heart Oooh, oooh Now there you are as I knew you would be turning away It was your idea to unlock my demons anyway I'm running from the light, I'm running for some time I'm running from the hope you sparingly give I've been checked-out on you, your cruel tricks are new You're the only one who knows where I live They say that funny people are the ones who always have an ugly darker side You can break my heart and crack my soul but you will never, ever touch my pride I'm running from the light, I'm running for some time I'm running so the pain won't tear me apart I'm taking what I can, an invisible man And I'm smoking my lungs black to match my heart Oooh, oooh I'm running from the light, I'm running for some time I'm praying that I'll last the winter though Strangers slip me cold hugs using my choice of drugs I'm punishing myself for still loving you I'm running from the light, I'm running for some time I'm praying that I'll last the winter though Strangers slip me cold hugs using my choice of drugs I'm punishing myself for still loving you Still loving you Still loving you Still loving you
10.
No Parachute First night I saw you Sung to me, stole a kiss from you And it's boy meets girl meets the sky meets feeling you One more smile and fall, no parachute Caught the reds, sung the blues Made him green, your forgot to choose So it's boy who's caught on the ride pulled in by you With one false talk of love, no parachute Your love handed to me Your blue eyes are branded on me Your trust somehow landed on me But there's no landing, no landing for you I saw your head down One last wave, you're shadow bound You almost gave up your black truths A fear grips you from your lost youth So it's boy missed your hands by an inch to pull you through Trying to stop time as you fall, no parachute Trying to stop time as you fall, no parachute Trying to stop time as you fall, no parachute Trying to stop time as you fall, no parachute Trying to stop time as you fall, no parachute Trying to stop time as you fall, no parachute Trying to stop time as you fall, no parachute Trying to stop time as you fall, no parachute

about

In December 2007, Jamie Douglas reunited with previous band member David Hart. With thirteen years of previous musical history behind them in several cover projects, the two musicians shared a passion for songwriting. This reunion spawned a new songwriting partnership which gave birth to material which would eventually evolve into a full-fledged indie band.

While The Powergoats' didn't play their first gig until March 28th 2009 (Irene's, Ottawa), Jamie Douglas and David Hart produced two indie CDs complied from their humble, home-grown efforts. The first four songs in this collection are taken from their 2008 11-track demo 'Chrome Libido'. The next five are from 2010's 'Moonlit Crimes'. Both demo CDs were featured in "The Bluesfest Collective"; an initiative by The Ottawa Bluesfest to support Ottawa musicians and led to the band's first two performances at the festival.
